Back to School

Have you ever caught yourself at times? You knew that there was something wrong the way you wrote things but somehow, right after you hit publish, as much as you wanted to go back and correct it, you just leave it the way it is, hoping it would sound cute to the reader. But as you read the sentence over and over again, you feel more embarassed because you know d----n well, that not only does it sound horrible, but you just made yourself look silly in public! Tonight was that night for me and I know that I have the power to delete my embarassment, instead, I left it as it is. Like my old Manager would put it, "excuse her second language". I do take that as an excuse but I know that in this blogging business where words are your tools, sources, and all, you have to be really careful not only the way you write things the correct way, but in all proper English manner like the way English subject is taught in school. Now you know how we, people who talk funny and short, (as one saleslady at Safeway put it when she could hardly understand or heard what I said, as I asked for chai tea misto at their Starbucks booth back in 2004), take our English so seriously. Can you even imagine how every word spoken registers in our brains before we can even understand the meaning of the whole sentence? Never mind! How about slang words in sentences? Holy! I feel like spitting out some Filipino words whenever that happens and when I can't make out what it means until it is explained to me carefully. Whew! Just a few of the things I really have to take more seriously because of the nature of my day job. I don't mean to stereotype because like any human brains, there are those who are fast to comprehend. They don't need to process each word, they don't talk funny and they are taller than your typical Filipino. Anyhow, as I was trying to make ecxuses of my little embarrassment I found this on Flipboard. Brings me back to the wonders of the English language back when I was at school....
