Word of the Day

Watching the today's news after being mocked at work for certain words I used in the making of a shopping list, I thought I'd share my little word story of the day here with you. Has anyone of you heard of the word "bond paper"? Anyone here who happened to be born and raised in North America, in their late thirties? What would you call that paper you use for printers? Does it matter if you are an Asian, or a British or an American? Do English words vary according to nationality? Or is it the age? What was printer paper referred to as, in an office environment before people owned computers in their household?

Naturally, knowing me who can't let the mocking pass, I googled the word which I wished I did at the time. And what do you know, there it was, "bond paper"! Top of the list on the results was surprisingly, from "Wikipedia"! The word I used for "printer paper", which I thought originated from the Philippines after getting raised eyebrows from work and of course, asked questions as to what I was referring to! Based on the search list, according to Thesaurus, bond paper's definition is a superior quality of strong durable white writing paper; originally made for printing documents.

My co-workers laughed at me for using the word "bond paper" for what they call "printer paper". In all fairness I searched for that word, but Mr. Google was not cooperative enough. Why isn't there an answer to my "printer paper" search as academically satisfactory as to my "bond paper"? Does it have anything to do with the 21st century? Words, words..... anyone want their shopping list made?
