A lot of us don't have the luck to travel like the rest of us.
Places we've seen and places we dream of going to are poles apart, and there are the obvious reasons why we can't so we keep on dreaming, envying others, and resort to other sources like flippin pages and pages of either magazines, websites and stuff.....
I love travelling and I've been so lucky to have had my share of that experience in real life. And it wasn't the part where I get to see a lot of beautiful places but the most exciting part of my travel would be in this category:
To be able to speak the language, or at least some to get me by;
To meet and get to know the locals and see how they live their daily lives and live it myself;
To eat and learn how to actually make the staple food of each town;
To explore the unknown, things and places that are not usually there for tourists;
To continue being friends with people I met and being able to remember the taste of their culture, their food, their language.
It has been seven years now and I haven't got that kind of luck.
Today though, I am grateful that I live in a tourist town and that my job deals with public almost the whole nine hours of everyday.
It doesn't matter if I sit on a desk the whole time.
My feet take me to different parts of the world just by dealing with people I deal with.
I was wondering why we still have tourists around but guess what?
Today I discovered that many people from different parts of
Canada and the world have decided to move and settle on the island.
I met a few of them today and talking to them brings me back to those travelling days.
Listening to their beautiful and sometimes funny accents reminded me that I didn't really have to move from my desk. I can experience the culture by spending just a few moments with each client I deal with. Sometimes there's a few who keep coming back to see me just for a chat and maybe some little help but hey, I guess this is it!
Earning friends with my feet down the desk all day, not bad.... I can live with that.
Have a great long weekend. Hope your feet will take you to some beautiful wonders of the world and nature with no stress at all!.....
